Getting Around

Most travellers usually end up picking a rental car at one of Tasmania’s main airports – either in Launceston or in Hobart. You can return the car either at the same place or a different depot, but you have to arrange that when making your booking. A one way trip from Launceston to Hobart is a popular option for those that would like to see a bit of Tasmania while limiting the amount of driving they have to do.

When driving in Tasmania remember to:

  • keep left
  • take care on windy and narrow roads
  • the maximum speed limit is 50km/h in urban areas and 100km/h in other areas unless otherwise signposted
